Youth & Seniors

Over the years, the TTCS has sponsored a number of social and cultural initiatives, including Seniors’ outings and Youth development workshops.

Youth

Over the years, the TTCS has had an active Youth Group, who held youth-oriented meetings and events, and participated in Youth development workshops.

We encourage the continuing active participation of Youth in our community events, and urge parents of Caribbean heritage to encourage their children to become active in our programs.

Seniors

Over the years, the TTCS has sponsored a number of Senior’s events. Recently, Seniors have been treated to a discount at our annual “Parang” Christmas Lights Family Dinner & Dance Cruise.

In 2008, the Trinidad & Tobago Cultural Society of BC, in seeking to preserve culture and traditions, created the Inter-Generational Cultural Transfer New Horizons Project with sponsorship from the Government of Canada’s New Horizons for Seniors initiative.

The primary focus of this project has been to get seniors and young adults involved in steelband music, carnival costume creation and traditional dances. The project was scheduled for two semesters: spring and fall 2008. An ongoing result of this project has been that the TTCS now has a group of seniors who have gained enough skill with steel pan to be able to perform at occasional TTCS functions.
