The Caribbean Community Grapevine
A Call to Join Forces
In the late 1950s and into the 60s, a wave of emigration from the Caribbean to countries like Canada caused a West Indian population base to become established in metropolitan centres such as Vancouver.
People from island nations like Trinidad & Tobago naturally connected in these new environments, and as a result of their fellowship and interest in retaining their culture, many social, sporting and cultural initiatives were naturally conceived and successfully undertaken over the years. At the enterprising end of the scale came the various Caribbean festivals that take place every year in North America, of which Caribbean Days Festival is a great example.
This Festival has been produced every year by an occasionally-evolving, but always hard-working, core team of Society members supported by a larger group of volunteers. Now, with the passage of time comes change on the horizon. The core group that has traditionally formed the backbone of this effort is now a mature one. In the coming years, our Society will need a transfusion of new blood in order to help maintain the level of success we have been enjoying. The door is opening for the next generation to step through.
Now, more than ever, we need the help of those who love the Festival and all things Caribbean.
If you have been watching from the sidelines and thinking that you could be of assistance to this movement, now is the time to act. Join us and bring this Festival to even greater heights in the years to come.
