A Special Soul
Dear members and friends,
Our community lost a very special person on October 2, 2009, when Mrs. Lyris Aquing, Treasurer of the Trinidad & Tobago Cultural Society of BC for many years, passed on after an extended battle with cancer.
Despite the warning signs, when the end came, it was still a shock. It is not easy to reconcile that this gentle soul is no longer with us. She was truly wonderful in the eyes of so many.
Although Lyris expressed clearly that she did not wish for any recognition of this sort, we would be sorely remiss if we did not take time to mention the exceptional significance that she holds in the history of our Society. She deserves the highest honour for the sacrifices she made for us, and recognition of the personal suffering it caused -- always endured with her quiet dignity.
A Celebration Of Life service for Lyris Aquing was scheduled:
May we humbly suggest that you take the opportunity to reflect on the need to cherish the time you spend with your loved ones each day.October 12, 2009, 10.00 AM

Death is nothing at all,
I have only slipped into the next room
I am I and you are you
Whatever we were to each other, that we are still.
Call me by my old familiar name,
Speak to me in the easy way which you always used
Put no difference in your tone,
Wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow
Laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes we enjoyed together.
Play, smile, think of me, pray for me.
Let my name be ever the household world that it always was,
Let it be spoken without effect, without the trace of shadow on it.
Life means all that it ever meant.
It is the same as it ever was, there is unbroken continuity.
Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight?
I am waiting for you, for an interval, somewhere very near,
Just around the corner.
All is well.
