Independence/Republic Day Celebration
The Trinidad & Tobago Cultural Society Of British Columbia requests the pleasure of your company at its celebration of the 49th Anniversary of the Independence of Trinidad & Tobago! Did you know: Trinidad & Tobago became a Republic on August 1st, 1976. The event is celebrated as a public holiday on September 24th because this is the date when the first Parliament met under the new Republican Constitution. This year's Independence/Republic Day event will be held on the 35th Anniversary of that first meeting of Parliament. Join us for a fantastic Dinner, Dance & Cultural Show to celebrate. This once-a-year event will be memorable. We are delighted to honour our special guest and keynote speaker Mr. Selwyn Jacob, award-winning Trinidadian-Canadian filmmaker and Producer with the National Film Board of Canada. Mr. Jacob is renowned for his creative and thought-provoking films including the recent Mighty Jerome, a feature-length documentary on legendary Vancouver sprinter and person of colour Harry Jerome. Also being honoured are local Caribbean radio pioneer George "Reggae" Barrett and longtime TTCS of BC members Krishna Ramjagsingh and Salil (Sal) Mohammed. Top the night off with dancing to the hot sounds of the one and only DJ Carl Sound Vibes. This year's celebration is an event not to be missed! 2011 Event Details
